Our Favorite Sustainable Self Care Brands

Here at Glotanicals we believe that taking care of yourself shouldn't come at a cost to the planet and I'm so glad we're not the only ones who hold these values. There are some incredible things happening in the indie beauty space with more and more brands taking sustainability seriously. Glotanicals was not the first and certainly not the last! So, we wanted to shed some light on some of our favorite sustainable self care brands which to no surprise are also female founded!

In 2010 Earth Tu Face began with herbalists inspired by nature, a California garden, and a focus on creating a pure skincare line in harmony with the body and with the earth. Earth Tu Face focuses on creating highly effective, safe, and ethical products directly from nature, relying on the natural world’s ability to deliver results. All of their products are hand made in small batches with an emphasis on organic ingredients, zero waste packaging and ethical plant sourcing. They have an incredible range of products and use some innovative packaging ideas- my favorite is the solid perfume shell compact.

A little over two years ago, our founder, Reagan Hart, set out to create the first low waste sheet mask. Reagan created green beauty YouTube videos for a few years and became increasingly aware of the post-consumer waste that products in the beauty industry created. One of her favorite products, single-use sheet masks, were the hardest to recycle. She wanted to create a circular system for her friends, family, and audience to get the immediate glowing effects of a sheet mask without the mask and its wrappings hitting the landfill.

So, she went to Taiwan and found a team that believed in her visionary idea. Together they created the first green beauty, water-soluble hydrogel mask! The mask is stable at room temperature and dissolves in hot water! This is one sustainable innovation we're really excited about!

MABLE’s mission is to deliver beautiful products made from natural and sustainable materials to prevent plastic waste from harming the environment, providing consumers with everyday alternatives that do not compromise quality or effectiveness. MABLE’s dream is to inspire and create a community of like-minded people, igniting a movement. Founders Alexey, Emma, and Gilmar were frustrated with plastic pollution and the lack of stylish sustainable swaps for their everyday routines. So, they teamed up to create MABLE®. The first product launched was a super-stylish and eco-friendly toothbrush with a 100% biodegradable bamboo handle. Now, they've expanded to offer toothbrush travel cases, cotton swabs and refillable dental floss containers and their refills. We can't wait to see what they come up with next!

Emily Held the founder created Mamas Medicinals in 2011 with passion and the mission to create natural skincare free of harmful ingredients to bring balance naturally. Many products contain sustainably harvested wild herbs sourced in beautiful northern California right where the products are made. Their products are formulated with high quality CBD to nourish & rejuvenate your skin and body to make you feel and look your best naturally. Using only the finest cold-pressed, unrefined organic oils and many native herbs sourced right here in Northern California and all made in house at their workshop in Mendocino County.

Pyra Beauty's mission is to make your skin and the world a better place through makeup that's good for your skin and the environment. They love to celebrate individuality by creating their our own standards of beauty that focus on loving ourselves and our planet. Makeup that's skin and universe Friendly for all.

Pyra's journey began a few years ago when founder Angelica Romero was working inside a salt mine located in her native country in Zipaquira, Colombia. It was truly a life-changing experience. While traveling every day to be underground 180 meters below ground, Angelica realized how special it is to be surrounded by nature. Through Pyra beauty, she wants to inspire others to become closer to our planet by experiencing plant and mineral-based cosmetics in biodegradable packaging.

River Organics is an independent beauty company, located in Wilmington, NC founded by husband and wife team Corinne & Fabien. Corinne is an Art Historian with an eye for simple beauty and Fabien is a natural product chemist who worked in the Chanel skincare laboratories in the South of France, where they both lived for 8 years. Life in France, and travels in Italy and the Middle East introduced Corinne to beauty regimens in which oil, not creams, formed the basis of skin care. Their products are excellently formulated, clean, vegan and everything is packaged thoughtfully in zero-waste compostable paper based tubes and containers.

Founders Adriana & Inga built KOA+ROY with a strong passion for sustainability, health and wellness in sunny San Diego. We love their strongly held belief that it is the responsibility of businesses to preserve the environment, drive a positive social change, and never cut corners when it comes to quality of products.

They've created beautiful massage cubes infused with CBD that are the epitome of sustainable self care and they plant trees for every order. Such a win win!

Like the beauty industry, there is SO much greenwashing in the fashion industry as well. Finding truly sustainable yoga gear isn't as easy as you think which is why we were so excited to find Teeki. All of Teeki's yoga wear is made with a fabric made from recycled materials and made in the United States. Plus, they have such a great variety of fun prints! We love this brand to elevate our daily yoga practice, sustainably of course!
